A very wise and very dear pastor friend reminded me of of this quote from Luther's mentor:

"For every time you look at yourself Martin, take ten looks at Jesus Christ."

And then he added to me, "For every look at the situation with your children, take ten looks at His promises."  Here is one of those:

"But from everlasting to everlasting, the Lord's love is with those who fear Him, and His righteousness with their children's children---with those who keep His covenant and remember to obey His precepts." (Psalm 103:17,18)
